Iris Flower - AIS Foundation

The American Iris Society Foundation (AISF) was established in 1971 as a means for people to make donations to encourage interest in and knowledge about irises. At that time the American Iris Society (AIS) was not a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and could not allow the tax-deductibility of contributions. Thus, AISF was established as an independent non-profit organization affiliated with AIS.

Contributions to AISF are used for the research in the genus iris through funds, grants, loans and scholarship projects. Contributions to AISF support the AIS Library through the Evelyn Jones Memorial Library Fund. The Foundation also funds the Ackerman Youth Essay contest.

Examples of projects funded by AISF include research in the genus iris -- including iris genetics, taxonomy, the collection of new species, pathogens and diseases and cures. Over the years, grants have been issued to the top researchers and educational institutions throughout the United States as well as internationally.

Contributions to the Foundation provide a particularly apt way of honoring or memorializing irisarians with the knowledge that the donation will help make a perpetual contribution to the advancement of irises as plants of beauty and scientific interests.
